Regardless of an individual’s age or health conditions, throbbing shoulder pain is quite common in people across the board. Many times the problem lies from poor posture that has been developed throughout a lifetime; however, other causes are common as well. Posture is a hard habit to break; although, great changes in shoulder health can be achieved. Luckily, there are many additional home remedies to shoulder pain that will save a trip to the doctor with a few simple and quick fixes.
To begin let’s review a few of the common causes of shoulder pain might include one or more of the following:
- Athletes often have shoulder pain resulting in overuse of the muscles surrounding this part of the body.
- Sometimes there might have been an unfortunate event that caused injury to the shoulder. Car wrecks, athletic injuries, slips, falls, etc. might have caused a dislocation of the shoulder thus resulting in annoying pain following the trauma. Torn rotator cuff, tendonitis, bursitis, arthritis, and other related causes might be the problem.
- An uncomfortable sleep or poor posture might stimulate the pain as mentioned previously.
- Although it has been said that overuse can damage the shoulder, underuse can do the same! This often will affect the elderly when activity begins to decrease.
- Cervical spondylosis can also trigger pain around the shoulder blade. This case has to do with nerve compression.
- Of course there are severe cases in which medical attention would need to be sought including a break or fracture.
These include some, but certainly not all, of the common shoulder pain causes.
Treating the Throbbing Shoulder
Now that the common causes have been reviewed, let’s try and solve this annoying problem. There are many home remedies that can be used to treat the pain which can include the following:
- Pain can always be calmed with ointments, balms, rubs, ice, cold or heat packs, etc.
- A simple rest of the shoulder will ease the pain.
- Many oils are great when used in massaging.
- A nice walk will increase blood flow and tend to reduce local pain.
- Learning to keep good posture is imperative to reducing shoulder pain- this includes when one is sleeping. Proper neck, back, and shoulder placement should be practiced.
- Bending the neck to where the head touches the shoulder repeatedly on each side can offer some stretching and pain reduction as well as other neck exercises.
- Having a balanced diet packed with calcium will also add to overall bone and muscle health.
