Hemorrhoids, which are often referred to as piles, are enlarged veins in the rectum. This condition can occur in the internal and external veins, and result in pain and itchiness. Piles are often seen in pregnant women, those suffering from constipation, and can also be the result of low fiber diets and heredity.

Hemorrhoids can be very uncomfortable, but they are not dangerous. Many people suffer from this condition every day, but the good news is that there are remedies available to help you get rid of them.

Comfort and Prevention
One way to help prevent hemorrhoids is to avoid straining when having a bowel movement. Intense straining can aggravate or cause hemorrhoids. When passing a bowel movement, you should not have to force it out, but let it come out naturally on its own. You should also avoid lifting heavy items that cause you to strain.

If you are suffering from piles, sitting on a ring or donut cushion will take some of the pressure off the area. These rings are available in inflatable cushions, or those made from memory foam. You should also avoid sitting for long periods, as this can aggravate the area.
Eat a diet that is rich in fiber to help prevent piles. This includes fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and brown rice.

• Witch Hazel
– Soak a cotton ball in pure witch hazel. Dab the soaked ball on the piles to ease the swelling and itching.
• Warm Teabag – Tea contains natural astringents called tannins, which help with pain and swelling. Apply a warm, wet teabag to the affected area as needed.
• Ginger, Mint, and Lime – Add one teaspoon of ginger with 1 tablespoon of lime juice, honey, and mint extract. Drink at least once per day.
• Epsom Salt Bath – Add Epsom salts to a warm bath and soak for 15 minutes up to three times per day. The salts will help the piles shrink.

• Aloe Vera Leaves – Freeze aloe vera leaves and apply to hemorrhoids that are painful or burning. You can also cut one leaf in half and heat until warm. Apply before bed.
• Lemon Juice – Soak a cotton ball in fresh lemon juice, and apply to the rectal area for at least five minutes. This treatment may cause some burning and irritation at first, but will help relieve swelling and pain.
